1949.4 set up Machine Building Department including the internal combustion engine and the thermal research institute

1960.2 set up Shipbuilding Engineering Department with the internal combustion engine major and the ship turbine major

1978 granted the first master degrees in China

1981 granted the first doctoral degrees in China

1989.4 establish Dynamic Engineering Department

1998 set up the center for post-doctoral studies

2003 Power engineering and engineering thermal physics was granted the first-degrade discipline and doctoral degrees in first-level disciplines

2006.1 establish the School of Energy and Power Engineering

2007 granted power machinery and engineering national key (nurturing) discipline

2007 set up key laboratory of marine energy utilization and energy conservation of ministry of education

2009 awarded as national specialty of thermal energy and power engineering

2010.4 establish the Mechanical Engineering and Material Energy Department(with the School of Energy and Power Engineering under it)

2015.9 The school was moved to the west campus. The buildings covering 25,000 m2 were officially put into use.
